Clearlight?s Near Death Experience
Dear friends, prog fans in general and Clearlight fans in particular:
After two dozen of years of struggle to get my royalties paid correctly
with the record companies in charge of distributing my creations, I decided
in 1999 to become totally independent from the show biz system and to use
the internet to continue to exist artistically. Alas, the struggle didn?t
stop for that because my partner and producer kept all my royalties,
invoking tons of bills to pay.
When I seriously argued with him last year without result after eight years
of semi-robbery of my royalties, I decided to recover my total freedom and
to make a direct deal with Cdbaby.com. At least this company is honest and
pays me my royalties (for the first time in my life) but doesn?t do any
promotion and the sales are so low that I can?t survive. I depend on my
Brasilian wife to put a roof upon my head and food in my plate. Now she is
speaking of divorce if I can?t improve my financial situation.
I can?t even complete my most recent Clearlight music project,
?Impressionist Visions?. It is 75% complete but it definitely needs more
work to be good enough to be released for the benefit of your ears. In
order to do so, I NEED to improve my sales at Cdbaby.com or disappear
completely from the prog scene.
To be or not to be, this is now a serious question for me?
Because of the scandalous situation on the net allowing everybody to make
free and unlimited musical downloads, most of the independent artists, such
as myself, are experiencing near death experiences. Worst: Three of my
close musical partners, Shaun Gueirn, Pascal Menetrey, and Christian Boule
didn?t handle the pressure and killed themselves during these past three
years. They were all fathers under 50 years of age.
I am really sorry to beg you all, but this extreme situation imposes me to
do so. I am too young to die!!! (I just celebrated my 58th birthday.)
