Holy crap!! I GOTTA get in on this!!!!

and I must tell all of you folks looking for musicians to play with,
this is a potential goldmine! Twenty or so musicians of all types all
take turns going up onstage and improvising in twos and threes for
about 5 minutes each. Other musicians come on from time to time, and
others go off, and in the end everyone is up there and the organizer of
the event, Robert Cheatham, stands out front and conducts everyone into
an amazingly coherent soundscape. There were two electric bassists and
one acoustic bassist, a theremin player, four or five guitarists, two
sax players, a couple of trumpets, three or more vocalists (strangely
no drummer tonight), and though there were moments it approached
dissonant chaos, more times than not it was sublime. They do this every
month and they say it's different every time. Sometimes there are more
jazzers, other times the rockers dominate, sometimes it's noisemongers
and techno heads, but Robert keeps everything balanced and in
perspective.
One thing that surprised me was that many of these people weren't in
regular groups. So any of you looking for interesting players to work
with, this might be a good resource. Visit the Eyedrum (eyedrum.org)
website and you can find out when the next one is happening.
Hoo Hoooo Hoo Hoooooo
