I went to the one last year. Pretty cool. Steve Vai, Sharon Isbin,
Johnny Colt, Ernie Isley, Earl Klugh, and I can't remember who else (a
local country guy, and a local guy who offers lessons that played with
Elvis and many others - jazz guy and I can't remember his name).
Pretty interesting seminar. Nothing earth shattering or anything, but
fun nonetheless.
Ohhh. Don't even mention Kenny Cresswell's name! Makes my blood boil!
Long story, has to do with theft, and I'll leave it at that. He was a
real charmer besides that as well. I witnessed him breakup with his (a)
girlfriend at the time over the phone, just before X-mas so that he
wouldn't have to buy her anything. He then said that maybe he would try
to get back with her after the holiday gift season is over. Charmer! I
wouldn't trust him if he told me that 1+1=2.
Ok, anyway, got that out of my head! :-)

After reading the Progression article, I'll be there, definitely.
Also, I went to a free NARAS (Grammy organization) seminar at 10 High
last night. Featured speakers:
Johnny Colt (Black Crowes, Brand New Immortals, Train, co-owns Avatar
rehearsal studios),
Kenny Cresswell (drummer for Butch Walker, Avril Lavigne, BNI),
Leslie Fram (99x),
Jan Smith (vocal coach for... too many to list, check out jansmith.com)
Mark Willis (Atlantis Music Conference)
also Don McCollister (producer), Larry Dorfman from Nickel and Dime
Studio, Glenn Schick (mastering), the head of Arc The Finger (label) and
a number of fairly well-known local acts.
Their advice was invaluable, and I'd highly recommend attending one of
their events if you get the chance. I got to talk directly with three
of them-- when else would I have the chance?
Also, there's an article at
http://www.grammy.com/features/2004/1122_internet.aspx
Kind of ho-hum for those in the know, but good for the unwashed masses.
