Hey all you various list-folks out there,
I want to make sure that you don't let this show slip by. This coming
Tuesday, Beat Circus will bring their thing to Eyedrum. I've been
loving the heck out of their CD and this promises to be one of
Eyedrum's most memorable shows yet:
From the current issue of The New Yorker :
"The Boston-based ensemble Beat Circus comes to town for the debut of
an ambitious new Brechtian concept album, "Dreamland." Its sixteen
songs frame a narrative about an impoverished nineteenth-century gold
miner who loses an arm in the mines, makes a Faustian pact with the
Devil to get his limb back, kills his wife, and finally joins a
sideshow in Coney Island. The band, which is led by the songwriter
Brian Carpenter on trumpet, pump organ and vocals in a Tom Waits
vein, mixes carnivalesque tunes with rock moments. The group's rich
and tight instrumentation features a Morricone-inspired combination
of harmonica, viola, banjo, guitar, tuba, violin, trombone, upright
bass and drums."
Opening the night will be Envie, with their melodic, melancholy harp-
based songs, and North Georgia's own Larkin Grimm, doing her
"Psychedelicate" moody pre-folk music.
Who said you have to get up early on Wednesday, anyway?
