I saw Warrant at Gazarri's one night, before they got signed in 88. It was a weekday night so the place was not very crowded. THey were horrible! We saw James Hetfield there too. He was laughing his ass of at them, which we thought was kinda funny.

biggest band on the Sunset Strip for a year or two before their first album came out; there
must've been some reason for it besides being pretty. I mean, there were much prettier bands

Not necessarily. About that same time Pretty Boy Floyd was the biggest band on the strip. Interestingly enough, they had a huge following, but only played 9 gigs before they got signed. They would write in letters to the local music rags (like Screamer, Rock City, etc.) as female fans and just rave about themselves. I had to give it to them for cleverly generating a basically non-existant buzz. However, they were a horrible band. All makeup, no music.

Poison, well we should all know that CC DeVille was the crappiest guitar player.

Even "the crappiest guitar player" is a helluva lot better than we've got now.

Unfortunately, this is sad, but true!

Which is too bad, because there's no reason it had to happen.

BTW, what about Extreme? And Winger? You can't call them "no-talent", y'know; the main reason they get such a bad rap is that shirt that "Stuart" wore on

No, Extreme and Winger were not no-talent bands. THey fell into that midrange category along w/ Dokken, etc. Good musicians, but just under the virtuoso bands.
