Now I'm not actually *in* a band, so you can take whatever I say with that in 
mind.  However, I'd think that a main point of playing live would be to put 
your music in front of people who have never heard it before and, hopefully, 
build up a local following and reputation.  A $10-$15 dollar cover would 
present 
too large a psychological barrier for someone who has never heard any of the 
bands in question.  I personally wouldn't pay $15 dollars to see two bands 
completely blind and unheard.  You have to keep in mind the various other forms 
of competition in this town for the casual entertainment dollar...bars, other 
clubs, movies, DVD rentals etc.  The absolute outer I'd consider charging would 
be $8.  

It's funny how the price of concerts has skyrocketed.  In 1987 I saw Roger 
Waters' full scale Radio KAOS production for $15 and a Pink Floyd ticket was 
less than $25 just a couple of months later.
