band is at a juncture where if we are to proceed any further along the "working
band" route, we need to make a record. I am lobbying hard to do it in my
basement, with my mics and mic-pres, on my computer, for the grand sum of $0 in
recording costs.
Agreed on all points. I have to wonder though, how much you've spent on all
your recording gear: computer, mics, preamps, cables, outboard gear, etc.
Then amortize that over all the recording you've done with it and are likely to
do in the future. In my experience the cost per song can actually come out
cheaper with a midrange 3rd-party studio. Of course that's neglecting the DIY
advantages of unlimited time and greater control...
Trivia: Tree Sound Studios here in the Atlanta area has an SSL console that
was used for three Rush records and two Police records.
