Hey y'all,
I just got word from Curtis at 9 Lives, and apparently Thursdays
have opened up again and he'd like to have us back!
So, Z-Axis and Sundog! You guys were up next when the April show
didn't happen, so let me know what Thursdays in June look like for you
guys, and I'll set it up.
Also, as we approach Rogue Fest in July, let me just address the
fact that I know a lot of the ARIA bands that weren't included in final
line up were disappointed. I hope you all can understand where Wade
Summerlin and I are in terms of trying to move the festival forward in
terms of the big picture.
Assuming that we're able to get the monthly ARIA show back on it's
feet, the initial Rogue motivation of giving us locals a place to play
has been filled. What needs to happen next is to put Atlanta on the map
nationally and internationally as a safe haven for progressive rock,
and Roguefest can help that by getting as many travelling bands on the
bill as possible. Please know that these groups are all excellent, and
many of them are covering great distances at completely their own cost
to play here. As always, we have no up front budget, and this year
whatever money we get at the door (last year we made just over a
thousand dollars) is going to disappear instantly in paying the
headliner Timothy Pure and providing a truly professional sound system.
The other bands are not being paid, and they are giving of their own
time, talent, and money to participate in the show. If they leave
Atlanta having had a great experience, they're going to want to come
back, and word will spread about what we've got going on down here.
To everyone who participates in ARIA on any level, Roguefest
needs your support now more than ever, to make this summer's show a
success and lay ground work for everything that is to come in the future.
But here's another thing: I've not gotten a response yet, but I
have pitched the idea of a Rogue Pre-show to Curtis at 9 Lives, and if
that were to come through, we could do an "official" Friday night show
there on 7/16 that would feature ARIA bands that we were unable to
include in the Shakespeare Tavern shows. If 7/16 doesn't come through,
a possible fall back position would be to see if we could have
Thursday, 7/15, for our July ARIA gig, and just make that an official
pre-Rogue show, even though we'd probably miss a certain amount of
audience that would be coming into town on the Friday for the festival.
Not ideal, perhaps, but at least it'd be something.
Again, I've not gotten a response from Curtis on this yet, but
let's what we can do!
Thanks a lot, and see you soon!
Matthew
