Actually, one of the festival founders was Mark Willis (of New Sound
Atlanta). He was Stuck Mojo's manager and the guy who put together the
Saturday Night Six Pack series at the Roxy in the mid 90s - that was a once
a month show with 6 different local rock bands. In fact, prog rockers Roots
of Consciousness were one of the bands that played (that was before I was a
member of the band). So Atlantis seemed to grow out of Mark Willis' rock
connections and his history as a rock promoter.

Not only that, but most of the bands that have been signed at some point
after playing Atlantis (although not necessarily because of Atlantis) have
been rock bands - the two most famous were Injected and The Marvelous 3, but
the article that John listed earlier also mentioned Double Drive, Josh
Joplin, Brand New Immortals, Tender Idols, and several other rockers.
