Calling all adventurous bassists and drummers. Lenny's will be having a
space-rock festival on April 28, and yours truly is looking for a bassist and
drummer who are NOT afraid of improv to do, you guessed it, a set of improv
music aiming at the cosmos and many points in between. I'll also be joined by
Brian King on guitar and guitar synth.
The basic strategy is to create music in the moment that's NOT a predictable
screaming stereotype free-jazz cacophony, but rather , embracing the idea of
what Ornette Coleman called "Compositional Improvising", in other words
improvising ideas that darn near sound composed and exploring them in real
time. Another aspect of this one-off thing is that for each "piece", each
player will take a turn at generating the idea, while we as a group listen and
develop it, it could be chaotic and it could be transcendent but NEVER
predictable.
Whoooooooo's brave enough to sign on and try this?
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the
source of all true art and science. - Albert Einstein
