[atlantaprog] After the Crimson show...

Hey ARIA folks, Tunnels will be playing at Eyedrum Saturday night at
10. Should be plenty of time to get over there after Crimson if you
don't mind missing the Tunnels opening act. From the description on
Eyedrums announcement list, they sound quite interesting:

>Sa 1 - Tunnels - Mantissa, doors10pm, $7
>
>Tunnels: Percy Jones - bass, Marc Wagnon - midi-vibes, Frank Katz - drums.
>
>Tunnels is based in NYC and has three albums released on Buckyball
>Records. Percy Jones, fretless bass, is considered to be one of the
>world's greatest bass players by Bass Player Magazine, and besides
>founding the group Brand X in the 70's, he has played with notable
>artists such as Brian Eno, Suzanne Vega, and Phil Collins. Marc
>Wagnon uses his percussion experience, mallet technique and
>compositional talents to form his unique approach to the rarely
>heard or seen electronic vibraphone. And drummer Frank Katz, who has
>had such songs written about him as "True to the Click", has been
>hailed as one of the most exciting discoveries since Jack Dejohnette
>and and Tony Williams. Modern Drummer describes the band: "Tunnels'
>often delirious songs range from Zappa-esque meter frivolity, to
>electro-jazz, to atmospheric free funk. Though they occasionally
>meander like gypsies on a balloon ride, these are ferocious
>performers. " And the All Music Guide says about them: This
>maddeningly creative, wild, and sometimes experimental trio makes no
>bones about its desire to carry on in the hardcore jazz fusion
>traditions."
>
>Tunnels will also perform at the 2003 NEARfest, which is a notable
>art rock festival in Trenton NJ. This is Tunnels' maiden voyage to
>the southeast, and the three look forward to meeting the many people
>and fans who have been asking them to come experience true southern
>hospitality. For more information about Tunnels:

>Drunk, at a party, here is how Mantissa would describe their 'sound'
>to a cute girl: "Rooted equally in the glory-days of mid-90s
>emotional-indie rock and the glitchy exuberance of post-millennial
>dance music, Mantissa works somewhere in the tension between."
> Actually, they would probably never say this. Rather, "Like that
>guy from Crooked Fingers singing over To Rococo Rot." Or, "I dunno.
>I guess we sound like a combination of The Notwist and Red House
>Painters." Or even, "Joan of Arc, if they killed Tim Kinsella and
>came to terms with their cleverness" Or something like that.
