[atlantaprog] Re: 2 questions

1. What was the first album that got you into
progressive rock?

Interesting question. I'm really not sure I
remember, but HEMISPHERES by Rush comes to mind.
I was aquainted with Rush before this. But
Hemispheres I think was the first thing by Rush
that got me listening in great detail.

2. For those of you who play instruments, why
did you choose that instrument rather than
another?

An uncle on my father's side of the family played
the guitar and he did this little thing he called
the "nothing." And honestly, I don't really
remember how it went (I was 4 years old) but I
think it was kind of a boogie woogie type thing.
In any case, I remember asking him to play it
over and over again.

Then there was a musical latency period until I
was about seven, when I got a plastic guitar from
Kmart. It actually had six strings and you could
tune it. I think it even had a little book with
it. Shortly after this I started taking lessons
with my dad, using my sparkling brand new $40 Kay
Classical...lol

Now, there WAS an actual conscious decision made
to take up the guitar. My parents required all
of us (I have two brothers) to take music
lessons. We could choose what type, but we had
to take music lessons. My oldest brother Harry
chose voice, my middle brother Michael chose
piano, and little Gene, without hesitation and
clasping his K-Mart special announced he would be
a guitar player.

Happy Holidays
Gene
