These are from a million years ago, but there you go...!

1. What was the first album that got you into progressive rock?
The first record I bought by one of the groups that we generally
consider to be "progressive," was Rush/Permanent Waves, which I got the
summer of 1980.
2. For those of you who play instruments, why did you choose that
instrument rather than another?
My parents had me take piano lessons when I was little because they felt
it was the best intro to music in general, and even if I never really
got into music seriously, the prevailing thought was, "everybody aught
to be able to play a little bit of piano." I started taking violin
lessons because my best friend in 1st grade played violin, and as for
guitar, well...
Let's just say that I've wanted to play the electric guitar (I
never even owned an acoustic steel string until just a few years ago)
for as long as I can remember. I just like the sound of it. ;-)
