Irfan, I think any beginer who is in to DBA would know how to set some parameters depending upon the OS he/she is using. To cut short, I had done all these things, before I wrote to this forum. Guys, Bounced the db yesterday. The entries in Listener.ora all are correct. These are the entries in snmp_ro.ora. <<Some-thing interesting>> snmp.visibleservices =3D (listener, SAAR) snmp.shortname.listener =3D LISTENER snmp.longname.listener =3D listener_saar snmp.configfile.listener =3D E:\ORACLE817\network\admin\listener.ora snmp.oraclehome.listener =3D E:\ORACLE817 snmp.servicename.listener_saar =3D OracleORACLE817_HOMETNSListener snmp.SID.SAAR =3D SAAR snmp.oraclehome.SAAR =3D e:\oracle817 snmp.address.SAAR =3D (ADDRESS=3D(PROTOCOL=3DBEQ)(PROGRAM=3DORACLE)(ARGV0=3DORACLESAAR)(ARGS=3D= '(DESCRIP TION=3D(LOCAL=3DYES)(ADDRESS=3D(PROTOCOL=3Dbeq)))')) snmp.remoteaddress.SAAR =3D (DESCRIPTION=3D(ADDRESS_LIST =3D (ADDRESS = =3D (PROTOCOL =3D TCP)(HOST =3D 25.4.48.3)(PORT =3D 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=3D(SID=3DSAAR)(SERVER=3DDEDICATED))) ifile =3D E:\ORACLE817\network\admin\snmp_rw.ora ifile =3D E:\ORACLE817\network\admin\sqlnet.ora Here in this file when the DNS is changed, the third line automatically changes to " snmp.longname.listener =3D listener_saar.ALOSRA.Root.AD" And the sixth line changes to "snmp.servicename.listener_saar.ALOSRA.Root.AD =3D OracleORACLE817_HOMETNSListener" I had removed ".ALOSRA.Root.AD" manually and then restarted the server. But this entry comes there automatically. Then I bounced the db thru SVRMGR. The entry ".ALOSRA.Root.AD" was removed automatically. My only worry is this server being in remote location and for any reason the server restarts, then this manual mode of restart is required. Why is this happening? Appreciate your replies. /- Vinod -----Original Message----- From: askdba-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:askdba-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Irfan Khan Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 2004 9:14 AM To: askdba@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [askdba] Re: Listner does not start when domain name is changed. Thanks for ur reply Subodh.=3D3D20 The IP address of the Oracle Server has not changed. The domain on to which this Oracle server is hooked has changed from NT to 2003 where as the Oracle Server is a Win2K machine. Since the domain has changed, we had to changed the domain name in the Oracle server. And once the name was changed the machine had to be restarted and there after Listener is not starting which is in automatic mode. I tried to open the Net8 Configuration assistant, but when I go to the Listener menu. It is not getting activated. Hence I am not able to debug the Listener.=3D3D20 /- Vinod. -----Original Message----- From: askdba-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:askdba-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Subodh Deshpande Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 2004 7:35 AM To: askdba@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [askdba] Re: Listner does not start when domain name is changed. Hi Vinodh, i think you have not changed IP, hostname of computer etc.. only sid and gi=3D3D3D d has been changed..just check up..and just check up are not using any rese=3D3D3D rve words in it.. like other services, listener sevice is there in service control/admin. check whether it has started or not or there itself is giving the problem, =3D3D3D is this service in mannual mode or auto..and status is disabled..it should =3D3D3D be enabled and if mode is mannual, then you have to start mannually after s=3D3D3D tarting the 2003 server, if its auto then its not required.. and whatif if you configure anoher listener on different port.. svrmgrl can give better idea about listner status.. good luck..subodh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vinod Gopinath BMMI IS" <vinodg@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <oracledba@xxxxxxxxxxx>, <askdba-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>, <askdba@freelis=3D3D3D ts.org> Subject: [askdba] Listner does not start when domain name is changed.
