There is a dramatic difference between the problem solving techniques presented to us in formal engineering courses, and the skills that are called for in actual practice.

These differences will be outlined, leading towards a special focus on the need for cooperation between creativity and problem solving in engineering applications.

Blocks inherent in problem solving will be addressed, as well as some fascinating techniques.

About the Speaker:

Victor Goldschmidt is an Emeritus Purdue Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Fellow of ASHRAE, and honorary member in the IIR (International Institute of Refrigeration), ACAIRE (Colombia  Association of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and AAF (Argentine Association of Cold).

His industrial experience includes having been an Applications Engineer, and a Development Engineer with Honeywell, as well as serving as team leader with numerous research contracts with the HVAC&R industry.

He has worked with numerous graduate students and published over 200 technical papers, and during his last years at Purdue University served as Head of an academic unit.

A past member of ASHRAE?s Publishing Council, Technology Council, and Director at Large he currently serves on the Society Rules Committee.

He is a trained (Synectics) facilitator.

Currently he is a facilitator to problem solving and strategic planning sessions, an ?ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer?, and Trustee in the Leelanau Township Board in the lower Northwest Michigan
