PS, John has fixed a few more things in LanManFS (built-in) which is
reported to perform more consistantly than LM98. We're trying to sort
a couple more things, and will release a new test-ROM at that point.
Michael BG who started this thread reported fast performance under
LanManFS (but with issues that we're fixing) but very slow on LM98.
As such, this may be of interest.
So, just as an experiment I did the following:
Copied an approximately 2GB video file from Drive D: on my PC
(spinning rust) to Drive C: (SSD)
Time taken - 15 seconds
Copied the same file over LanMAN98 to HardDisc4 on the TiMachine
Time taken - 290 seconds
Copied the same file from HardDisc4 to HardDisc5
Time taken - 40 seconds
Copied the same file from HardDisc4 to my NAS
Time taken 110 seconds
The NAS is a Synology DS115J, and I was copying to the internal drive,
rather than the USB external drives connected to it.
Usual caveats apply - not timed with a stop-watch, just counting in my
head. Used Task Manager to increase the Wimp Slot for the Filer Action
Window which didn't appear to noticeably improve things.
I don't generally through large files around my network, so I'm not
really inconvenienced by any of this, but thought I'd let people see
what happens here.
