Yes, there are such items. The problem though is that it would mean another
item to chain. And I have no idea if any given example would be better,
worse, or different, to what I have now. Might give the same behaviour - or
worse in some other way.
The basic problem is that the sales info on most HDMI switches or
breakout/combiners simply you just the basics of what the device does.
The switch I have will actually let me extract 192k/24bit audio via spdif
(coax) even though my monitor can't do anything above 48k, for example.
Such details simply aren't mentioned in general in the marketing info.
FWIW I've more than once asked Andrew about finding a better / alternative
switch. Partly because I'd like another. Partly because if I know which
ones do what I can report that so others can choose on an informed basis.
The problem is that the lack of detail from makers mean we'd have to buy
something to find out if it was a waste of money.
