[argyllcms] Re: widegamut LCDs and internal LUT

And to be more specific: I don't think you will have luck with Eizo displays here since they connect to the PC via USB. In contrast to this, e.g. NEC displays use the standard VGA/DVI cable and you can use the standard DDC/CI commands.

USB would be easier, since there are tools to trace the data
from the MSWindows applications, and the interface is readily
accessible. In contrast, DDC seems to be hard to get reliable
access to from an application. I've suggested several times
on the X11 list that DDC I/O functions need to be added to
XRandR to allow for application access to screen controls
and LUTs (not just automagically reading the EDID) but this
doesn't seem to have gone anywhere yet (Color doesn't rate much
for the mainstream developers.)

to xcalib. And in addition to the work needed, it's unclear to me how general this really is: there's no single standard so far how to achieve this - in terms of how the information is stored inside an ICC profile and how the display is accessed.

Once access is possible, it's just a matter of reverse engineering the
formats. The main obstacle there is obtaining access to the appropriate
monitors.
