[argyllcms] targen parameter "m" - what's it for?

Hi again,

Can someone explain what the targen "m" parameter is for? (I don't
understand the documentation)

I had thought that it may represent the step size for each colourant, such
that the target is created from combinations 

of each colourant, where the colourant is changed in steps, m times over
it's complete range. But the default

value of 2 is far too low for it to mean this!
