there's indeed a considerable difference (>5%) to qhull's result:

qhull s FA <timage_t_200_sRGB_inters_iC2_r.points [...] Total volume: 421367.74

so much for "impressive precission" ;-)

There are differences between how Argyll and qhull computes a gamut
surface. qhull will compute a convex hull using all the given surface
points. Argyll will first filter the surface points using a "segmented
maxima" type algorithm, and then computes a convex hull in a space that
allows some degree of convexity in the surface.
