Hmm, OK,

well, in my case I did of course mean the same display. But the linux box was 
using a VGA connector where the Mac is using Apple's mini DVI to DVI .. With 
whatever that does internally.

But before I consider dual-booting the Mac, is there a good way to verify I can 
trust my i1d2?

I was indeed assuming that this is self-evident, but you're right,
possibly it isn't...
