Hi,
this problem has been reported by others, but since I
am not able to reproduce it with the hardware I have, there isn't
a solution currently. They also report it as a Ubuntu problem.
(I suspect it will be something that has to be fixed in the Linux USB
drivers though). Traces from the Linux USB driver debug seems to reveal
nothing interesting, although it would help to have some confirmation
of this.

See for instance usbmon
<http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/usb/usbmon.txt>.

It would help to know what the host USB hardware is though - ie.
the output of

    lsusb -t
and
    lsusb -v

with the Spyder plugged in for both systems (the one that works, and the
one that doesn't).
