Ok, I hoped that would not happen - seems like using xdg is not an option, then. Maybe I'll just leave the desktop shortcut out of the Linux installer for now. Can you check if you have the relevant xdg files /etc/xdg/user-dirs.conf and ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs on your system, and when that is the case if xdg is enabled (should be a line enabled=True in user-dirs.conf)?

However, I don't think it's necessary to create four entries in that
menu. If every program should install a GPL licens entry it would be
rather messy in the menus. The readme file is accessible from the
program so it's unnecessary to have in the menu too. Since there was
an option "add to package manager" in the install process the
uninstall menu entry could be removed to.

Agreed. I will alter the installer so it only installs the program shortcut.

On my sytem the packagemanager removes the /dispcalGUI folder, but
the menu items are not uninstalled. When I run the uninstall script
directly it removes everything. Since the packagemanager calls up your
uninstaller, the only difference I can see is some visual blinking in
the end of the uninstall program that does not appear when it called
from the packagemanager.

The entry in the package manager should just run the uninstaller, maybe there's a quirk somewhere. I think I will remove that option, so it doesn't cause headaches with leftover menu entries on some systems.

I will also suggest adding a few pre defined presets. I guess all the
options can be overwhelming for many of us.

I'll see what I can come up with :)
