It's not perfectly straightforward though, because the preliminary
profile has to be inverted within targen to do this, and what sample
points should be generated for CMYK, where there there can be a
variable amount of black used ?
Generally, the profile should be of course accurate for any amount of
black. On the other hand, there is always a preferred (fixed) black
generation built into the B2A tables, which is normally used when the
profile is applied in PCS -> device direction. So it might be an
acceptable compromise to optimize the accuracy of the profile's gray
axis especially for this particular black generation. Of course,
proofing gray CMYK colors with different amounts of black will then be
less accurate.
