hello list, hello graeme
I want to share some ideas how to make products for endusers based on
argyllcms. Please consider, that I´m not a software-developer, so the
terms I´m using are may be not correct from developers point of view.
User-Interface for commandline-tools
-------------------------------------
Some months ago, a friend told me, that there are tools available, which
can generate an UI for command-line tools.
Can anybody give some recommandations which tools would fit to build an
UI to argyllcms for LINUX, MacOS X(FINK) and/or Windows ?
At the end of the process, this UI should be easy to install with
argyllcms on different platforms. Ideal would be one installer for both
applications...
1) print profiler for GMB i1
-------------------------
GMB (Gretag Macbeth) has cut down the price for the i1 spectrophometer.
In Germany it is now at 895,- EUR which is a good price for
professionals users or developers in the graphics arts.
Actually the price for professional softwares to generate ICC-profiles
for printers based on measuring a testchart with 928 or more patches is
1000,- EUR or higher.
I know a lot of of peoople, who are highly interested on an OS
print-profiler for the GMB i1 based on argyllcms.
As I read the argyllcms documentation, the necessary functions are
implemented already. The main point is the interface to the i1.
Actually, I see two ways:
1a) MacOS X and Windows: free GMB MeasureTool
-----------------------------------------
The GMB MeasureTool is part of the Demo-Package of the GMB Profilemaker.
It is bundled with several versions of IT/8 7.3 or ECI2002 testcharts
for printing. After measuring, it delivers CGATS / IT8 / ISO 12640
conform measurement-data. Measurements can be done with the free
demo-version.
My question: has anybody tested, if measurement-data from the GMB
measuretool can be read directly read by argyllcms ?
1b ) Directly driving the i1
-----------------------------
As I read the documentation, there is some support for the GMB
spectrolino. But I didn´t found information about the i1.
questions:
- Is it right, that the i1 is not supported actually ?
- If somebody is interested to write an interface for the i1 , I may can
lend one of my i1 to this person for several weeks or even for 2-3
months. In this case I would prefer developers in germany or poland,
because this are the countries, where I´m living and travelling, so I
could meet this people directly. But also developers from other
countries (e.g. australia...) should feel free to contact me directly.
- Interested to buy an i1 ?
I have good contacts to GMB, for shure I can offer developers in europe
a price 15% to 20% under the list price. For bigger Open Source
projects, I can contact the GMB-Headquarter, if they make better prices,
or if they may make a donation to the project.
Please feel free to contact me.
Greetings from berlin and warsaw
:-) Jan-Peter
