I'm using the free radeon driver, from Xorg project. I don't know if their 
MergedFB works the same way than the ATI fglrx driver, but I'll ask the 
Xorg developpers how it works. Maybe ATI/NVidia drivers work the same 
way... Anyway, this will be a good start point.

I'll let you know if I have answers.
