In many situations it might be even better to believe one's own eyes when it comes to the whitepoint: The monitor white should be neutral for /your/ eyes in /your/ environment -- It makes no sense for me to stick to the emulation of an abstract standard observer with a cheap colorimeter when the results discount one's own perception.
