As it seems the industry needs a revamped 2 degree observer CMF...
1931 sounds like awfully old to me.
To start with, it's likely that it'd need fine tuning by racial origin.
I remember back in pre-ICC scanning separation tables, many high-end
scanner manufacturers bundled a bunch of different "flavors" of
separation tables with their software. Many years ago I spoke to some
Scitex researchers which told me they had found different parts of the
world favored different tables, or 'color flavors' so to say. And such
segmentation was not only related to 'most pleasing color' judgement,
but also to 'best color match'. So their opinion was that not only
cultural differences were at work there, but also physiological ones.
Which does not seem far fetched at all.
So this would be a case where "racial profiling" would have quite a
literal -and hopefully legal- meaning. :)
