xgamma doesn't use XF86VidModeSetGammaRamp() though (which is what's
needed for calibration), it uses XF86VidModeGetGamma().

So it appears that the Matrox drivers don't properly implement
XF86VidModeSetGammaRamp() for your card. I'm advised that
the X11 Matrox driver is a proprietary driver, so really your
only avenue is to contact Matrox about this issue.
