If your scanning software is good in subtracting the mask and if your minilab
printer profile is accurate enough both methods work. They sure work for me.
Some time ago one of my friends who was born "digital" got a Linhof MT. He put
Ektar into it, shoot CC Passport and processed; scanned using Vuescan and
profiled in RPP. After that shots of a balloon show done with Linhof and
scanned looked much more natural and vibrant out of the box compared to shots
done with D2X at the same place at the same time and carefully processed.
