I have seen that some of the commercial calibration software has
something they describe as native gamma, as one of the gamma options.
I wonder if this is equal to use the gamma value reported by dispcal
–R as target? On my monitor the reported gamma are very close to
dispcal default target gamma, so this question are more of theoretic
interest.
The only way to get real native gamma, is not to calibrate at all :-)
Given that the main point of calibrating is to get the R=G=B axis
neutral, and to get a progressive tone reproduction curve, then
it's hard to know what "native gamma" really means. Yes, picking
the number reported by dispcal and using it as the parameter to
dispcal -g will approximate the native curve look, while still doing
something useful.
