yes, there is something wrong somewhere. I dont know where to start looking.
All I know is ....if I remove and reinsert the USB plug of the 
instrument, Argyll works fine for a few minutes more and craps out. 
Isn't the Argyll driver in question here?
BTW, today I found out that the bundled iMatch 3 software (which came with the 
instrument) works absolutely fine on this Windows Vista machine.........and it 
does a pretty good job of creating a icc in like 15 minutes!

It only starts looking at serial connections if
it can't see anything on USB. There's something up
with your systems USB or the instrument or the USB drivers.
You need to figure out what it is.
