I could not get any sort of udev rule to work for my DTP 94 and the bottom line was that the version of udev is too old and doesn't work very well. With RHEL 5 we get udev 095 (I think) and the udev rules work OK. I tend to agree with Graeme, in my limited experience udev on Linux is a bit of a mess.
