[argyllcms] Re: Implementation of setting a black point

Needless to say this is against the advertising argument of the highest contrast ratio, but I hope you get my point. Of course I didn't mean to set the black point luminosity below the display's capabilities. Being able to do that would be some kind of magic ;-)

I was just wondering if the intent was to trick the calibration
to have a "dead" zone from zero, and I'm not sure it's really setup
to work that way.

This is just an idea for a feature you might be interested in implementing in addition to the vast possibilities one already has.

The difficulty is with the color of the black point.

By the way: I'm having some problems to achieve a truly neutral gradient from black to white with Argyll. It might be a problem with my monitor (Eizo S2431W). But, using the iColor Display software which came with the device, my results were far better.

In what way do you mean it's not a truly neutral gradient ?
Does the gradient not have a consistent white point, or is it
consistent but not the right white point ?

Have you confirmed this with instrument readings ? If so,
which software did you use to do the instrument readings ?

I can postulate 3 possible explanations:

dispcal is not making the gradient conform to the target curve.

dispcal is not setting an appropriate target curve.

There is a difference between the manufacturers colorimeter calibration
that Argyll uses, and the instrument calibration used by iColor, leading to
  a different white point.
