[argyllcms] Re: Gamma measurement discrepancy.

Hello Steve,

I'm glad you're starting to use Argyll for calibrating and profiling your
Samsung 245T.

I've been using myself the 245BW (crap) and the 2693HM (pure crap) so I'm
looking forward to hearabout your experience with the 245T since that's the
step up for me.

The Spyder 2 is a good instrument. And Argyll is a superlative piece of
engineering -- thank's to Graeme Gill.

So, if you're seeing a discrepancy between the Gamma value reported by
Argyll and those you could figure out by visiting web sites that have these
ready-made torture images, I'll suggest that you have to trust Argyll's
figures instead. Unless your Spyder is known to be faulty -- a possibility.

I commend your efforts to try to set your monitor up as close as possible to
the sRGB standard. Excellent choice on your part.

The only thing, in my opinion, that could account for the difference between
Argyll's reported gamma value and your own visual judgement, from all the
sites you mentioned, is, possibly, the Spyder itself. Because Argyll's
calculations are accurate. But, understand it is at the mercy of the
instrument.

Ideally, you'd need to use another Spyder2 or some other colorimeter to
confirm your results. But I don't suppose you have five or six colorimeters
lying around in your home like me...
