Just to finish this thread, it seems that this problem has been resolved. Marco had a USB/IR peripheral connected, that was somehow messing up the OS X USB/libusb a minute or so after the system starts. Removing the peripheral solves/avoids the problem. [It seems to stop libusb seeing more than the first USB bus.] Graeme Gill.
