So if you just let the system sit there after starting it for some
time (how long ?), and then try running spotread, does it fail immediately ?

After startup the instrument is visible for approximately 60 seconds, Spotread sees it into this timing regardless of how many times it runs.
Today I have tried to install a fresh copy of Tiger: the first 60 seconds after reboot all right, after this time the command "spotread -?" stop on "-c listno Set communication port from the following list (default 1)" for *8-9 minuts* but the command ends successfully and the spectro is present.
