Therefore I would like to ask if it was possible to give this
information by hand, in an interactive fashion. I am thinking of
something like:

It's not currently possible to do this. It may be possible to
support this sort of thing in dispcal and dispread without
a lot of trouble, but supporting it in general would be
quite complicated, since there is a lot of information
that has to be communicated about instrument capabilities.

I'm not sure it will help your particular case though,
since any release that supports this feature will support
the Spyder3 anyway.

But this would require immerse patience from the user!

I don't think a manual system would be practical for display
measurement. There is already an ability to input manual readings
for normal reflective chart measurement.

The last benefit would be the possibility of familiarising oneself
with the calibration process without the need for a hardware
calibrator (obviously the resulting profiles would be next to
useless).

I doubt this would be much use. If the device response is too
inconsistent, the calibration process will probably fail in some way.
