Can't it be done directly like through some command to draw a rectangle on
screen of x b y size and filled with a certain RGB value?

Well, if I'm going to need to measure that many patches then I'll need the
little NRC circuit.

My CS-100 is a CS-100 not a CS-100A model :(
So I'm stuck with a proprietary interface.
I guess someone could conceivably design a serial interface to it. But I
don't have the electronics knowledge to do that myself. Would you know where
I could hire such a person on the internet? I have the wiring and timing
information for the CS-100 interface.
