To connect the calibration and the characterisation tag seems not at all
confusing to me. The absence of one part migth be much more confusing as
soon as a user must find out (select) the rigth parts. VCGT in a
ICC profile is the rigth direction. A proper CMS should take the burden
from interpreting and loading the rigth parts from a user. Just tell the
CMS which profile to which monitor device and done. XICC, xcalib and
dispwin make not a operating system level CMS. The oyranos-monitor util
from Oyranos joins them to a usefull command.

No. The reason to have a profile in X is the networktransparency this way.
A remote host may not see the Xservers ICC profile as file but as atom.

It is currently more about a confusing situation. A OS level CMS is not
finished and half ready part are spread all over.
