FYI... from what I'm experiencing, the most visible differences (call it errors) rendering a testchart proof (absolute) with a heavily smoothed profile and with an almost non smoothed one, is in the very dark and black patches. The real matter also is that is not easy to make precise and predictable measurements in those dark areas. Measurements tend to be noisy due to instrument, to printing process and paper inconsistencies. For a good job,
It could be noise, but it could also be that it is the dark area where the device characteristic has the most "bend", and increasing smoothing makes the table "stiffer", hence less able to follow the "bend". Graeme Gill.
