Well, I've not actually tried camera-based printer-profiling myself, but
I think the end result was that the camera- and scanner-based methods
give more or less comparable results. A colorimeter gives considerably
better results than either, though - and a spectrophotometer is better
than a colorimeter.
We do have scanners, but they are all text-quality cheap stuff.
Yeah, the type of scanner can make a big difference. The scanner built
into my Dad's Epson RX620 is *much* better for this job than my old
Perfection 640U.
consistent light but a no-window room and a specified set of lights
and angles should do that.
Yup - just watch out for specular highlights and associated effects -
your printed target will likely have a somewhat different lustre from
the IT8.7 chart.
Needless to say, you'll need to go through this routine for each
distinct print method you want to use - and you may find you have more
success with some than with others.
