oops ... sorry for this link: I overlooked that you can't send your prints to colorxact.net to get them measured, so you still need a measurement device to use colorxact.net -- but there are other ICC profiling providers that offer "full service".

I guess I have to go through the blues of first profiling one of our
SLRs in reproducible light, then use that to profile the printer.

hmmm ... I don't to catch on how you want to profile a printer with a camera? There are some hints in the Argyll documentation about how to use a scanner as a poor man's colorimeter, but I guess this won't work with a camera.
