Hi.
Is there a way to apply a color profile while writing a new *.tiff
file (or whatever format) on disk?

The Huey won't do it as you can't use it to measure prints. The cheapest
way to get a printer profile is trying to get one form the manufacturer
of your printer. This requires that you use original inks and the
designated papers. Though the accuracy of those canned profiles is often
not exactly stunning. Another option is to employ an online profiling
service (e.g. <http://www.colorxact.net>. They use argyll to create the
profiles :-)
The question is, how do I apply the resulting profile? I thought that
the best way is to prepare a tiff file that has the colors
distorted/corrected using that profile and then just print it the same
way as before.
Is that something that can be done with argyll and/or the GIMP?
If the application you print from or your printer driver doesn't support
colormanagement, you can use cctiff to convert your image from the
source space to the printer colorspace. See
