If you are worried that you might make changes and forget how to change it back, get a utility called CMOSSAVE (I think it is on Timo Salmi's University of Vaasa site, http://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/. It includes utilities for saving the CMOS, checking it against one of any number of saved versions, and restoring it from one of these.
