Back when I was using A170 I installed an APM originally designed for
A150 so that I could set her up to run an external text editor of my
choice. The name of the APM is EXTED150.APM, 5023 bytes. I uploaded
it a few minutes to my gopher hole and you can download it with Arachne
from there,

gopher://sdf.lonestar.org:70/1/1/users/sheywood

Look for it in the gopher tunnel labeled "Many DOS Programs"

A caveat about using this APM for installing an external editor on
A170:

This APM was designed for installing an external editor on A150.
It will work for installing an external editor on A170, but it will
overwrite your MAIL.HTM file with one that looks very much like the
one provided as the default MAIL.HTM for A150. Make sure you back up
your MAIL.HTM file before installing this APM. After you install the
APM it will work, as is, for using an external editor of your choice.
if you want your new MAIL.HTM to look like your A170 MAIL.HTM you will
need to edit a few minor changes into your A170 MAIL.HTM (The one which
you backed up) before you replace your newly installed MAIL.APM with the
one which you backed up and then modified as needed.

I hope you can figure out how to do all that. I somehow figured it out
when I did all that to my A170.

Good luck!
