Ken,

Just an idea, but...have you tried a different modem in the P2 450?
That's what I would do first rather than look for something that is
in all likelihood not there.  You do not need "Slowdown" or MoSlo
etc with Arachne (it isn't written in Borland Pascal)...this really looks
like a hardware problem with the modem.
