FreeDOS 1.0 is known to cause problems; several critical bugs have
been fixed since its initial release, though there is still no v1.1.
Also, OpenDOS 7.01, DR-DOS 7.03 and MS-DOS 6.22 all do not support
large hard disks. However, I am using the DR-DOS 7.03 MBR without
problems on all of my machines, and so far there are no problems with
hard disks of up to 465 GB. I suspect there is a problem not with the
MBR code but with the partition table(s) on your system.
You did not tell us what exactly you mean by "it recognizes only 3072
Megs". I presume that you mean that it only recognizes partitions
within the first 3072 MB.
I remember that early versions of FD FDISK had massive problems, I
could not make it work on any of my machines.
Partition Magic 8.0 is very good at spotting problems with the
partition tables; it even finds problems that normally do not manifest
themselves.
