    Nah ! Just robust discussion among equals. :)

   Well, I don't much care about the code because I don't speak the
laguage. However, I can see that there are some real improvements with
Ray's version. And some non-improvements, but with forthright dialogue
between consenting adults, those can be settled to the satisfaction of
most.

Improvements (for the non-programming user):
==========================================
Faster.
Smaller core uses less orthodox memory.
More orthodox memory available for other things, both available now and
available later.
Many more user-configured hotkey combinations.

   Those are real, measurable, visible improvements over the standard
Arachne.

On the con side:
===============
Dial-up configuration is not yet ready for prime time, and you are all
aware of the debate over that one because it has been brought onto this
list.

But otherwise:
=============
Ray's version has ALL the functionality of a standard Arachne.
The cross-pollination between the two forks is really benefitting both
versions - those who are part of this process have seen this almost daily.

My own position:
=================
Ray's version is still in development and I think still has some way to
go before it slows down to the level where not much more can be made
better. For this reason my own workhorse Arachne is still a standard
one.

But I can see the day when that will change, and I will be taking full
advantage of the other fork for most of my DOS internet needs.

-----

Folks, it is not a war between the two forks. The two forks cannot, in
my view, be merged, because one has been re-built from the ground up.

But that doesn't mean that the two forks cannot help each other - it is
happening now.

So, those who are willing to see how the other fork is going should be
able to try her out very soon now.

For those who want to stay with the "traditional" stream, that's fine,
too.

Regards,
        Ron
