Although the blinking was hopeful for me, it was by no means 
enthusiastic.

I do not think so, for two reasons: 

- BOOTP/DHCP fails

- when I insert IP numbers to wattcp.cfg instead, I cannot
even ping to the name server of the local network.

I tried to open the web pages with different settings, again. 
No connection.

Yes, this seems to be correct here, too. At least there is no other 
address on the 10.0.0.x network that I can ping to. 

    IP 10.0.0.2
    DNS 10.0.0.138
    GW 10.0.0.138

The question seems to be, whether I can do anything that helps the 
DHCP negotiation. The server on the LAN does not do encryption, but 
checks only the MAC address.

I am not so certain. But anyway, experimenting with this in DOS and 
Linux helped me to understand much more on TCP/IP networking than 
before. Thank you for your patience.
